Taxi: You can catch a taxi at Taoyuan International Airport at both terminal 1 and terminal 2. There are two options: you can either go to a taxi counter inside the airport, or catch it outside on the sidewalk at designated areas.

The great news about the Taoyuan International Airport taxi service is that staff can speak English and they will be able to direct you to the right place to catch your taxi. You can tell them your hotel name in English and they will do the translation work for you to the taxi driver.  You can use a credit card for payment for your taxi ride, so you don’t have to change your money at the airport if you’re in a rush.

Uber: Travel from the airport to a hotel using Uber and discover popular routes and destinations. Depending on your city, you can even use the app to get around with public transport, bikes or scooters, and more.

Taoyuan Airport MRT (Airport Express) The Taoyuan Airport MRT – sometimes known as the Airport Express – is the quickest way to travel between Taoyuan Airport and Taipei Main Station.

The express trains run from both terminals every 15 minutes, and take approximately 36 minutes to travel in either direction.

Tokens can be purchased from machines or the information booth directly before the MRT turnstiles. Both of these only accept cash payments.  You can save money if you purchase a token on Klook beforehand, where you can also get a return ticket for a better saving (valid for 60 days).

The trains are very comfortable and have free 4G WiFi available and USB charging ports.

The Express trains will have a purple stripe along the side (and purple seating), whereas the commuter trains will be blue.

When heading back to the airport after your holiday, you’ll need to get to the Taoyuan Airport MRT near Taipei Main Station.

Be aware that the train service to Taoyuan will either be signed:

  • Taoyuan Airport MRT
  • Airport Express

     *   Both the signs will have a purple train symbol

Metro

Taipei Mass Rapid Transit (MRT), branded as Metro Taipei, is a rapid transit system serving the capital Taipei and New Taipei City in Taiwan..

Taipei’s underground public transportation system, the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) is one of the most reliable and clean public underground services in the world.  Sometimes known as Metro Taipei, it is an efficient and convenient way to get around the city, with trains running frequently and serving a wide area.  The hub of the MRT is Taipei Main Station, a vast complex that connects the MRT to the Airport Express, the Taiwan High Speed Rail (THSR)

It is strongly recommended that you purchase an EasyCard, which is the easiest way to gain access to the MRT system, and also offers discounts of between 10% and 30% off fares (percentage based on the number of rides taken during the month).

The MRT has a distance-based fare system, which means that the cost of a ride increases as the distance travelled increases.
