Nestled between the trendy Condesa and the lush Chapultepec park, this area has a lot going for it. One of its major draws is the thriving art scene, which is definitely worth checking out. But for architecture buffs, the real highlight is the hot pink house, also known as “Casa Gilardi” designed by the famous Modern Mexican Architect, Luis Barragan. but first, coffee...

Two of my favorite coffee spots to enjoy the morning in San Miguel Chapultepec are Cleotilde located at Gelati 20 and La Milla at Gral. Molinos del Campo 19B.  Both have excellent coffee and pastries to choose from.

Once you’ve indulged in a sweet cup of morning coffee (and maybe even a pan dulce) it’s time to explore the neighborhood!  San Miguel Chapultepec is very walkable, and there are plenty of lush trees to keep you cool on a hot day.

One of Mexico’s most famous and relevant art galleries is the Kurimanzutto gallery.  The works of contemporary artists have been gathered over the years, eventually to be exhibited in this gallery. The gallery urges visitors to be part of a deeper criticism and investigation surrounding this art.  Opening times: Tue-Thu 11 am – 6 pm; Fri-Sat 11 am – 4 pm

stop for lunch

Mari Gold is casual dining at its best brought to you by Chefs Norma Listman and Saqib Keval of the Masala y Maiz Group. They’ve combined the flavors of Indian and Mexican food to bring you a unique experience. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and brunch from 10 am to 5:30 pm, Wednesday to Sunday. It’s closed on Monday and Tuesday. You won’t want to miss their extensive natural wine program and local beers, plus their specialty coffee bar. They’ve also launched a worker-owned cooperative store called Super Cope (on the side street, Calle Gral. Antonio León 31) originally opened to support their workers during the pandemic.

Mari Gold is located at Calle Gobernador Protasio Tagle 66A, San Miguel Chapultepec, Miguel Hidalgo, CDMX.  Follow them on Instagram @mari.gold.mx to stay up-to-date on their tasty offerings.

Right up the street from Super Cope is a fantastic restaurant called Madereros. The name pays homage to the history of the San Miguel Chapultepec neighborhood when the avenue along the park was called Camino de los Madereros because trucks loaded with wood from the State of Mexico used to get off there. Madereros is just a few meters from that avenue, and their whole concept revolves around firewood, which is the essential element of all the food prepared there. The Restaurant is housed in a lovely Porfirio Era building, and has a large and comfortable outdoor seating area, as well.

Madereros is located at Calle Gral. Antonio León 72, San Miguel Chapultepec I Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11850 Ciudad de México, CDMX, Mexico. Follow on instagram @madereros.mx

explore barragan

Many design lovers, and architectural enthusiasts find their way to San Miguel Chapultepec while exploring Luis Barragan’s “Casa Gilardi”.  Don’t miss out on the opportunity to marvel at one of Luis Barragan’s most magnificent works of art, the Gilardi House. This single-family home was built and designed in 1976 for the Gilardi family and is considered a true masterpiece. While the exterior may seem simple at first, the hot pink paint adds a pop of excitement to the otherwise nondescript facade. The true beauty lies within, and you won’t believe your eyes once you step foot inside. Get ready to be inspired and amazed by the incredible architecture and design of this iconic house.

Tours are by appointment only, and you can make a reservation HERE on the Casa Gilardi Website.

Casa Gilardi is located at General Leon #82, San Miguel Chapultepec 1 Secc, Miguel Hidalgo, 11850 Ciudad de Mexico, CDMX
