After booking my flight, and Tour of Brasilia, it was time to find accommodations. I love using Booking.com to discover hotels, and found on Booking’s site that world-renowned Architect Oscar Niemeyer had designed The Brasilia Palace Hotel! Since the purpose of my trip was to see Niemeyer’s architecture, I was thrilled at the idea of staying in a Niemeyer Hotel!
Upon doing a little research, I discovered that The Brasilia Palace was the first building to be completed in the new Capital of Brasilia. Inaugurated in 1958, The Brasilia Palace Hotel is known for hosting important dignitaries like Queen Elizabeth, Indira Gandhi, Dwight Eisenhower, and Che Guevara. Although it was devastated by fire in 1978 and faced decades of abandonment and neglect, it was modernized and reopened in 2006.
The Brasília Palace Hotel is truly remarkable and an inspiration to anyone who appreciates the beauty of restoration and revitalization. The tragic fire that had previously damaged the hotel did not deter the team from their mission to uphold the hotel’s charm and integrate modern amenities. The level of attention paid to the restoration of the hotel is nothing short of impeccable, preserving its original heritage while adding a chic and innovative atmosphere. Strolling through the lobby and dining areas, one can’t help but feel awe-inspired by the ghostly and mysterious ambiance that resonates from the hotel.
Although it is not located in the city center, the Brasília Palace Hotel offers a peaceful retreat by the lake, and its convenient location makes it the perfect starting point for your Brasília exploration. My hotel reservation also included a daily complimentary breakfast buffet, at the hotel restaurant “Oscars”, so there was no need to go in search of breakfast before heading out into the city. I was able to get around Brasilia easily using Uber, and hiring a guide through Viator for an Architectural Tour of Brasilia *Read more about the tour I took here*. The Brasília Palace Hotel is a great place to stay for anyone wanting to immerse themselves in the Oscar Niemeyer experience during their trip to the Brazilian Capitol!
